My Story

I am running the AJ Bell Great Scottish Run, Half Marathon in Glasgow in October this year! Since signing up to this, I have decided to raise awareness, and hopefully some money for a small charity called PSC support.

For those of you who might not know, my partner Ben suffers from this incredibly rare disease called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC). Less than 10,000 people in the UK are thought to have this disease. When the disease is active, the immune system begins to 'attack' the bile ducts causing them to harden and narrow, making it hard for bile to drain properly and ultimately leading to liver failure. There is currently no cure or treatment and most people with this disease will need a liver transplant at some point in their life.

Ben found out he had PSC when he was 21 years old and was only detected secondary to his new Ulcerative Colitis diagnosis. He was provided with no emotional support other than being signposted to this charity. I met Ben a few years after his diagnosis. Initially, we both struggled to have conversations about this condition and where this may take us in future, however we now find comfort knowing advancements in medicines is fast growing.

PSC Support is the only UK charity dedicated to PSC, which funds research, provides information and support including a helpline and events and advocates for those affected by the disease.

Any donation would be much appreciated or please take a minute to visit the PSC support website to see what they do!

Thankyou!
